Coronavirus Update 07/08/20
We are currently operating a one-way system to support social distancing. If you are attending a pre-booked appointment, entry into the building is currently via the side door in the Staff Car Park (please continue to park in the patient car park at the front of the building)

Exit from the surgery is via the front door. We kindly request that you arrive at the exact time of your appointment to allow for social distancing. We may request that you remain in your car if you arrive early or in the event that your clinician is running late.
For your protection and that of others, we kindly request that patients' over the age of 5 wear a face covering over their mouth and nose (mask or scarf) if attending a face to face appointment at Bridge Medical Centre.
If you have a pre-booked appointment, please stop and think. Would telephone or video advice be more appropriate? If so, please telephone the practice - do not attend the surgery.
Our telephone lines will be operating as normal, however, we are encountering a very high volume of calls and would encourage our patients to refrain from telephoning the Practice repeatedly for updates relating to any query. We will get back to you as soon as it has been resolved.
If you or a co-habitant are exhibiting symptoms of the coronavirus, please self isolate for 14 days and should symptoms worsen, please call NHS 111 or 999. Please do not come to the Practice unless it is for a pre-booked appointment.
In an effort to enable you to be in touch with your GP whilst avoiding the need for you to come into Practice, we’ve introduced eConsult which lets you consult with your GP online by completing a quick form that is sent and reviewed by the Practice. It can also direct you to self-help, pharmacy advice and local self-referral services. If you want advice from your doctor, you can submit a photograph with the form (if relevant) about their symptoms or condition. eConsult captures over 100 common clinical conditions, with built-in red flags to highlight critical symptoms that may require immediate or urgent intervention from another source eg 999/111. eConsult reports are sent securely to the Doctors or Admin Team to be triaged as appropriate. Standardised questions mean nothing is missed, and allows the GPs to familiarise themselves with the reports.
In addition, we would encourage all our patients to access the LIVI App as much as possible. LIVI is a new free video GP Service. Appointments available Mon-Fri 7am to 10pm, Saturday-Sunday 8am-4pm. We would like to inform our patients that all prescriptions will be sent to a nominated pharmacy and/or via the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS). If you are not signed up for this service please contact the surgery where you will be given instructions on how to do so. We are still working to our 48 hour turnaround for prescriptions.

The NHS and Public Health England (PHE) are extremely well prepared for outbreaks of new infectious diseases. The NHS has put in place measures to ensure the safety of all patients and NHS staff while also ensuring services are available to the public as normal.

- a high temperature - you feel hot to touch on your chest or back
- a new, continuous cough - this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)

Alzheimer's Society COVID19 Patient/Carer Support
This service is currently available to connect people affected by dementia with free support and advice available by phone and online. From practical advice about living with dementia, to someone to talk to when things get tough.
The Service is staffed by fully trained Alzheimer's Society dementia advisers who can support patient and carers directly by phone, as well as connect them to a range of local services.

New NHS App
The NHS App lets you book GP appointments, order repeat prescriptions and access a range of healthcare services
Who is it suitable for?
The NHS App is for people aged 13 and over who are registered with a connected GP surgery.
How does it work?
With the NHS App you can:
• check your symptoms – find reliable NHS information on hundreds of conditions and treatments, and get immediate advice
• book appointments – search for, book and cancel appointments at your GP surgery
• order repeat prescriptions – see your available medications and request a new repeat prescription
• view your medical record – get secure access to your GP medical record
• register to be an organ donor – easily manage your preferences on the NHS Organ Donor Register
• choose how the NHS uses your data – register your decision on whether it can be used for research and planning
How do I access it?
The NHS App is free to download from the App Store and Google Play.
Repeat Prescriptions Ordered via a Pharmacy
From 5th November 2018, pharmacies will no longer be able order medications on your behalf
You will need to order medication via one of three ways:
1. Online GP repeat ordering service (SystmOnline)
2. Visit the practice and order in person
3. Post repeat prescription request to the practice.
Exemptions will be made for certain vulnerable patients. If you feel you are particularly vulnerable and will not be able to order your medication via one of the three above routes, please speak to a member of the surgery Administration Team or click here to download the exemption form. Please note the GP will consider each exemption form on an individual patient basis
The Crawley Access Hub
The Crawley Access Hub is a new NHS Medical Service designed for the Crawley population to have additional access to GP services.
A number of Crawley Practices are taking part in this new service and will have daily access to additional Doctor’s appointments for patients to consult with a GP. The number of appointments available for each Practice will be allocated, according to the Practice’s patient list size. These appointment sessions could be held at a number of different Practices located within the Crawley area. Patient’s wishing to access these appointments will be offered an appointment by a receptionist or clinician at their registered Practice.
To access this service you will be asked for consent to share your medical records with other medical professionals, i.e. the GP that will be seeing you in the Crawley Access Hub. You will be asked for your consent to share your records when your appointment is being made, and you will also be asked again by the Doctor before your consultation begins. Your consent will be recorded on your medical records.
If you wish to dissent to sharing your medical records, you will not be able to consult with a Doctor working for the Crawley Access Hub, as this Doctor will not have access to your medical records. However this will not affect your rights to consult with a doctor or other health care professionals at your registered Practice.
You can change your consent status at any time by informing staff at your registered Practice. Any individual consultations that you do not wish to share can be marked as private.
When booking an appointment for this service a receptionist will ask you for a brief outline of your medical problem to ensure that an appointment in the Crawley Access Hub is the correct option for you.
This service will comply with Information Governance rules and regulations.

You can now refer yourself to physiotherapy without seeing your GP first if you are registered with a Crawley or Horsham GP.

Worldwide Shortage of Hepatitis A Vaccination
We apologise to any patients requiring the Hepatitis A vaccine for their travels. Currently there are no Hepatitis A vaccinations available.
We are in close contact with manufacturers for all brands of the vaccine and will endeavour to purchase supplies when they become available.
If you have been advised that your travel plans put you at risk of Hepatitis A, then you may need to seek alternative ways to be vaccinated. If you wish to speak to one of our practice nurses regarding your travel, please make an appointment when we will be happy to discuss your options. For some time patients have been able to book GP appointments online up to 2 weeks ahead and order repeat prescriptions. Patients can now request access to a summary of their medical history including illnesses, operations and procedures. Patients can choose how much access they would like and some prefer only to book appointments and order medication. In order to set up an account or extend the access you have, you will need to come to the surgery and complete some forms. Please bring with you photo ID (passport or driving licence) and proof of your address (utility bill from the last 3 months). For data protection we need to verify your identity before allowing you access. If you already have a password for appointments and prescriptions, we do not need to verify you again but for security you will need to show photographic ID.
This service is not currently available for children under age 16 and we do not allow proxy access.

Please be aware that by accessing your medical record you may see things of which you were unaware or had forgotton. You must not be coerced into applying for access to your records and must be responsible for the security of your records and password.
Electronic Prescription Service
The Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) is an NHS service. It gives you the chance to change how your GP sends your prescription to the place you choose to get your medicines or appliances from.
What does this mean for you?
If you collect your repeat prescriptions from your GP you will not have to visit your GP practice to pick up your paper prescription. Instead, your GP will send it electronically to the place you choose, saving you time.
You will have more choice about where to get your medicines from because they can be collected from a pharmacy near to where you live, work or shop.
You may not have to wait as long at the pharmacy as there will be time for your repeat prescriptions to be ready before you arrive.

How can you use EPS?
You need to choose a place for your GP practice to electronically send your prescription to. This is called nomination. You can choose:
Ask any pharmacy or your GP practice to add your nomination for you. You don’t need a computer to do this.
Can I change my nomination or cancel it and get a paper prescription?
Yes you can. If you don’t want your prescription to be sent electronically tell your GP. If you want to change or cancel your nomination speak to any pharmacist or dispensing appliance contractor that offers EPS, or your GP practice. Tell them before your next prescription is due or your prescription may be sent to the wrong place.
Is EPS reliable, secure and confidential?
Yes. Your electronic prescription will be seen by the same people in GP practices, pharmacies and NHS prescription payment and fraud agencies that see your paper prescription now.
Sometimes dispensers may see that you have nominated another dispenser. For example, if you forget who you have nominated and ask them to check or, if you have nominated more than one dispenser. Dispensers will also see all the items on your reorder slip if you are on repeat prescriptions.

Prescription Charge Exemption Reminder
It has come to our attention that a number of patients have recently received fines due to expired prescription medical exemption certificates.
As you will know, diabetic patients can apply for a medical exemption certificate - which should be renewed every 5 years. The onus is on the patient to renew their certificate so please check your certificate is still in date.

Advice for Travellers
Young adults are urged to check they have had their MMR vaccine before travel
Young people are encouraged to make sure they have had both doses of the MMR vaccine before going on holiday to Europe where there are large outbreaks of measles.
Cases of measles also continue to rise across England in unvaccinated people of this age.
The vaccine is available free to anyone who has not received both doses as a child. It protects against measles, mumps and rubella – all of which can be very serious diseases and are highly infectious.
While vaccine uptake levels in the UK in young children are currently very high, coverage levels dipped to a low of 80% in 2003. This means that there are significant numbers of unprotected teenagers and young adults who could catch measles both in England, particularly in environments of close mixing such as summer festivals and when they travel abroad for the summer holidays.
Measles is a highly infectious viral illness that can sometimes lead to serious complications and can be fatal in very rare cases so getting protected by taking up the offer of vaccination is crucial.
Between 1 January 2018 and 31 May 2018 there have been 587 laboratory confirmed measles cases in England. Cases were reported in most areas with London (213), the South East (128), West Midlands (81), South West (62), and Yorkshire and Humberside (53) reporting the most cases (based on provisional figures).
The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that to prevent outbreaks of disease, 95% of people need to have received the MMR vaccine.
