18.03.14 - PM Update
Wow Christmas has been and gone and now Easter is just around the corner!
We had a telephone call from the Care Quality Comissioners Inspector (more commonly known as CQC Inspections) back in February, she advised we had a planned visit due on Friday 7th February. We had a full day with the Inspector reviewing the practice premises, reviewing many practice protocols and procedures and many interviews with my deputy, myself, our Doctors, Nurses and non clinical Administrative staff along with some practice patients. Here we are a few weeks on and finally the report has come through and they seem to be happy with our practice - I have posted the report on a seperate page.
We had our PPG meeting on Friday 7th March, primarily to review our latest patient survey and results. We had a good productive meeting and I have uploaded our findings too.
Please keep your views and comments coming in we really do appreciate the feedback.

Please accept my apologies for not geting in touch with you all much sooner than this.
All I can say is 'Wow where did the Summer go' and 'Yieks it will be Christmas in a few weeks!'
I have been in touch with Peter our Group Chairman recently and we have tried to secure a date that both he and Dr Cooper could make for us to have our next Friends of BMC PPG meeting. Alas I can not get a mutually convenient date before Christmas and so thought I would drop a line instead.
If we had managed to organise a meeting I think the 3 items I would have been putting on the agenda would be;
1. to give feedback from what I think was a very successful Practice Awayday afternoon (all that time ago in June)
2. a suggestion that we must look at organising a new Practice Satisfaction Questionnaire for this financial year
3. and gather some input from our wider On Line Reference Group (PRG)
actually it would be 4 items
4. Patient Comments - it appears we do have some patients who are posting comments on our NHS Choices website - www.nhs.uk some of which are none too good.
Firstly a huge thank you to Peter, Brian, Joe and Bridget for taking the time to come and join us on June 21st at our Practice Awayday session. We really hope you found the afternoon as interesting and informative as we did. I think our staff really appreciated some quality time to talk about such a wide variety of topics and I also think the majority are hoping we will do it again.
I attach a copy of our Practice Updates from on the day and my subsequent updates as we have begun to tackle some of the issues highlighted.
As we have not managed to meet and discuss any changes to our Practice Satisfaction Questionnaire I will also post a copy on line and advise all we will be completing this again this year - amendments will be included in our next one.
It will be my intention to send the questionnaire to our PRG members.
I promise to be in touch soon with a suggested date for a PPG meeting early in the New Year.
In the mean time, Seasons Greetings and Best Wishes

Friends of Bridge Medical Centre
15th March 2013
I am writing to you on behalf of the practice and wish to express our sincere thanks for all the help, support and encouragement you and the Friends group have given to our practice over the past year or so.
Your views and thoughts helped us identify our questions for our initial local practice patient survey, which we held last summer. And we have since received the outcome of the national practice patient survey, February 2013. Once compared we have found common themes, and in line with our thoughts as expressed at the last Friends meeting the partners and I will be very pleased to extend our offer for some members of the group to join our full practice awayday training session. The main theme for the training session will be what the practice can do to improve the services and experiences provided for the practice patients. It will be our intention to have a date and venue organised for sometime during June 2013. We hope to be able to confirm details at the next Friends meeting on Friday 10th May 2013.

Patient Participation DES 2011/13
An outline of work carried out so far between Bridge Medical Centre GP Partnership and Patient Participation Group
Friends of Bridge Medical Centre;
In September 2011 Bridge Medical Centre embarked on a campaign to initiate a PPG Patient Participation Group.
In the first instance a few patient names were suggested by the GP Partners and Sharon Harrison practice PM wrote to the patients and asked if they would be interested in helping to set up a PPG.
The first meeting took place on 25th August 2011 and a total of 14 patients attended.
It was agreed we would begin a recruitment campaign for more members, a poster was displayed around the practice and a PPG page was opened on the practice website.
Over the last 18 months our group has increased to 60 and we have split these patients into 2 categories, our reference group who come along and meet here at the surgery and our virtual group who we share information with via the internet/email.
It is the practice aim to have a wide variety of patients in our groups; we shall try and cover all ages, sex and ethnic cultures. We currently have a practice population of 10,900 patients.
As part of our registration processes we now regularly ask for patient consent and email addresses, these will then be used to help us with patient satisfaction surveys – patients will be encouraged to contact the practice via email with any areas of concern and or suggestions on how we can make the whole patient experience a better experience.
From our first meeting we identified most patients wanted to talk about making contact with the practice, accessing the appointment system and generally wishing our front of house staff to be a little more friendly and approachable. Here we had the theme for our first patient questionnaire.
A patient satisfaction survey was launched during March 2012.
During April 2012 PN our chairman for the Friends group asked for members to help the Crawley PPG and complete the Vision and Value Survey.
Feedback from PN on Vision and Value report in May 2012. And agreed BC would join PN on the Crawley PPG as our Friends of BMC representative.
The Friends group continued to meet in August 2012 but had to cancel the scheduled meeting in November 2012.
At our last meeting 5th March 2013 we had an excellent discussion around the National Patient Survey results and the In House Patient Survey. Common themes emerged such as;
Answering the telephone, Making a forward booking, Seeing the same GP.
After due discussions Dr AC asked if the Friends group would be prepared to work with the practice on trying to find solutions to the areas of concern – those present agreed.
The outcome is a full practice awayday afternoon will be organised and 6 members from the Friends group will join the training session. This session is intended to take place during June 2013.
We will update this blog each time the group meets and agrees future projects.
